CSE blues

It's only a mere 2 days into CSE (and a week since I proudly proclaimed I am going into CSE with a blast) and here I am, utterly and thoroughly bored and upset with the system this specific Centre has provided. I mean, what's with the additional afternoon lessons? There goes ALL my plans to relax and yes, lessons till 4.40 pm do not really inspire me to work harder, instead it just makes me feel like going to sleep.

Lessons have officially started today, and I must say I wasn't entirely impressed. In fact, I wasn't even remotely impressed. Our year kickstarted with an hour-long period of Integrated Humanities (Core), and the teacher actually used a Macbook! Okay, that's something worth mentioning and remembering, because at the end of the year, when you try to remember characteristics of those who had benefited you along the way of acquiring knowledge, you can exclaim, "Hey, I know my IHC teacher uses a Macbook!" Despite the fact that Macbooks are snazzy and cool, they actually have NO part to play in increasing the overall level of interest at all. The droning and boring syllabus simply made everything much worse, and by the end of the period I am sorry to say that I had lost half of my confidence in even getting an A for the subject. Boo.

Physical Education couldn't be any worse with the 20 minute extension, could it? After all, we did pretty well with 40 minutes, so it wouldn't hurt to have an extra 20 minutes. Height and weight, followed by some running and push-ups (which many people did not complete all 60 of them) and the lesson ended on a high. Perhaps the only good thing it did was to relieve some of the stress gotten from the previous period. Next up was Chemistry, and the teacher gave out worksheets (finally we had something to do) which was fortunately very simple and easy to complete. For once, I managed to retain some of my knowledge from last year, as I recalled that the valency for Zinc was 2+. Yay.

Recess couldn't be better, as I met up with my classmates, as we joked about our teachers, and as we worried about the humongous amount of academic units (AUs) we were about to have. Ewww. Being in CSE HP meant that you had 11 AUs if you foolishly decided to take Bio, and most of them really did. After recess was Physics, and I don't know how it changed into Philosophy. The teacher came in, set up his notebook, and started to talk about applying physics in life, his three ways to succeed in life, and the complete A-Z on how we should behave if we wanted that coveted Physics A1. I don't know when it started, but soon he started rambling about how self-control and discipline was very important in class. Okay, if physics lessons will be like that in the future, I don't mind. At least it gives us a break.

The English period which followed was more of a self introductory course. We introduced ourselves to the teacher, said whether we liked or hated the language, and the English teacher had to choose an unlucky victim as the EL Rep. We talked about how we should read and read and read even more, the assessment system, and wham! It was lunch! Great, if English lessons end so quickly, I'd be glad.

Lunch was spent on IC making, so theoretically it shouldn't be called lunch, because I didn't have lunch at all. Hmph.

After that was the LAST period of the day (woohoo!) The dreaded Culture Differentiation Elective, or CDE, was really disgusting. Ewww. Who would like 7 handouts amounting to more than 50 pages to be handed out on the FIRST lesson of the year? Gross. The teacher talked and talked in his own American accent, and it was really hard to decipher what he actually meant. The time dragged and dragged until it was time, and I left the class almost immediately, trying to rid myself from the disgusting world CSE had plonked me in.

If CSE will be like that, I don't know how I'm going to survive for the next two years.

2009 is over, and perhaps it's time to sum it all up - the happy times, the sad times, the ecstasy and the pain. It could be a good year for some, a bad year for others, but I think 2009 was an awesome year for me.

I learnt a lot from the past year. Being class chairman was boring, challenging, and perhaps even stupid, but it cannot be denied that I had loads of fun handling the duty. The bilingual speech competition taught me to speak with confidence and skill, while Project's Day 2009 enhanced my researching and presentation skills. Outward Bound Singapore exposed me to the dangers of the real world, the beauty of real nature, and the horrors of absence of technology. Of course the MSG of 1.00 was a real bonus (got a new handphone as a reward :D), and the KL council retreat was a wonderful way to relax and rejuvenate. Class chalet was AWESOME. I mean, where else could you do midnight cycling, bridge, mahjong, swimming and watch a movie at the same place with your wonderful classmates?

All in all, I love 2009 for its opportunities, its experiences and its novelty.

I hope 2010 will be on par, if not better than 2009.

CLASS CHALET FTW!!!!

It was rocking, it was shocking, it was amazing, it was crazy.

And most importantly, it was fun.

Day 1

Picked up Bo Geng, Edmund and Xun Yuan from Marsiling MRT, did some last-minute shopping for some drinks and prizes before departing for Aloha Loyang Resort.

Along the way Bo Geng was teased about having to give up his first night at the chalet for "swimming lessons", (which was actualy an excuse to celebrate someone's birthday, but I shan't elaborate).

1500h
Reached there pretty early, so my dad decided to pick up another batch @ Pasir Ris MRT, Chun Shin, Dian Yi, Wei Heng and Darryl. So the 8 of us got stranded outside the chalet, oblivious to the fact that Ms Huang wasn't due to arrive for another hour. More and more games of Bridge ensued, until we realised that 20 minutes had passed without anybody arriving to check in!

Frenzy Frenzy Frenzy. Hence I called Gary, who said that he was at reception waiting for Ms Huang, who will come in another 40 minutes. Gasp.

More people came, namely Wei Liang, Colin Gay, Gary, Colin Ong, Seetoh, and lastly our dear Welfare Secretary - Keefe (who adamantly said that he had been waiting at reception since 3 pm without anybody telling him Ms Huang was going to arrive at 4).

Finally Ms Huang (or should I say Mrs Yap :D) came at 4 pm, with the keys and the stock checklist. Thank God she came, if not the chalet would be a flop XD. Bo Geng, Wei Liang and I checked the stock, while the rest continued their games of asshole dai di/bridge/elemental sets.

Then Edmund, Colin Gay, Yi Ming and Dian Yi went to the NTUC@E!hub, and managed to scam the supermart (again) of their trolley and they pushed it all the way back to the chalet :)

With all the supplies ready it was time to begin the barbecue!! Unlike last year we no longer needed Mr Rong for the fire :D cos we had the handy-dandy dependable Darryl!!! Within minutes the fire was set up, and within seconds after the fire was set, A DRIZZLE STARTED D:

Ha! There's nothing to fear, cos we still had the handy-dandy dependable Groudon (the Pokemon) in Wei Heng's DS. Yay! Groudon utilized his special ability DROUGHT, and it turned sunny again! Hahahahaha I am still baffled at how it really worked (i.e the rain really stopped after Wei Heng used his DS) but the barbecue was able to continue.

As usual, not much of the foodstuff was really edible, so we tried the second alternative - MICROWAVE. Cheesy Dogs and Hot Dogs became nicely cooked instead of being charred thanks to the microwave (and me, because I came up with the idea)

Three teachers arrived, Mr Rong and Mrs Wong who arrived in the same taxi and brought two roast chickens and a pork knuckle :D and ??? who brought along dumpling skins and fillings to ??? :D Many thanks to them, for we would be real hungry if we didn't have these extra (and very much more edible as compared to the barbecued food) dishes.

Fun, food, laughter for the next couple of hours, as Xin De and Yi Ming arrived, and I set up my mahjong table :D Pung, Chow and Hu filled the chalet until 10.30 pm, when it was time for the NIGHT TREASURE HUNT - an activity I was very proud of.

The hunt had a Merchant of Venice theme, where groups of three had to search for paper slips which had lines said by the various characters - Antonio, Bassanio, Portia and Shylock on them. Chun Shin and I set up the hiding places, I was more lenient compared to Chun Shin, who put the paper slips into very inaccessible places.

The hunt started, and while groups which were searching for the paper slips which I hid had early successes, with Edmund's group (comprising Edmund, Darryl and Yi Ming) getting 3 out of the 4 slips in the first few minutes. Then their group reached a standstill while other groups got their second or third slip in the next twenty minutes or so.

Suddenly Darryl found his fourth slip and his group proceeded to the end puzzle - the Jessica puzzle. I gave them two lines of Jessica, and they had to give the two lines which followed. It was apparently impossible for them. D: In the end Shylock's group did a surprise win as they managed to get the right line :D They won a box of chocolate.

After the hunt it was a few minutes of rest and relax, before we got to the other highlight of the night - NIGHT CYCLING. 6 of us, Keefe, Gary, Edmund, Darryl, Dian Yi and I went to cycle while the others continued their game of mahjong.

Day 2

We cycled to the playground, where we played and played and played, climbed the pyramid, did the obstacle course etc. What seemed like a "childish thing" grew alive again; perhaps the fun came from the fact that I was playing with people that I would not have a chance to play with again.

Then we cycled to macs, left our bikes outside without a lock, and some naughty guys actually went into a place where they shouldn't go to (ha I still have the video) and we had an early breakfast (or a late supper) then cycled back to the chalet.

OMG the mahjong people are still awake and they don't plan to sleep! Gosh. Went for a shower, played a little bridge and mahjong, then went to sleep at about 4.30 am, promising to wake up at 6.30 am. Slept with Gary and Edmund and ~~while I slept I was still hearing Gary's romantic whispers to Edmund~~ :X OOPS YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT.

Bleh I still broke my promise and woke up at 7 am. Woke up Gary and Edmund ~~(WTF Gary's arms were around Edmund. Sheesh.)~~ and continued to play a few games of mahjong with Wei Heng, Wei Liang and Darryl, who didn't sleep at all!

Cycled to macs (again) with Chun Shin, Edmund and Gary. Ordered McGriddles Meal and got my four game labels (which sucked). Anyway I cycled back, played more mahjong, then the mahjong guys went for breakfast.

Everybody's awake finally, and Keefe, OXY, Edmund, Colin Ong, Dian Yi and I decided to go for a short cycle while the rest slack at the chalet. Cycled for a bit, then met a stupid mob of people who asked me where the bicycle rental shop was.

Returned bikes, played a bit at the arcade, then went back to play a couple of mahjong games.

Went to e!hub, had chicken rice @ food court, then watched Love Happens with Gary, Edmund, Colin Ong, Dian Yi and Keefe. Nice movie, except the fact that I keep on dozing off during the unimportant parts :(

Movie ends, and it turned out that the others were already back at the chalet! Walked back, then changed into swimming attire.

Time for a swim! Endless fun and laughter while Chun Shin tried to bond as many people as possible (fortunately he didn't succeed at all) while some people did weird dives into the water XD (Chun Shin's dive impressed once again) There was underwater wrestling and freeze-and-melt. Pffft.

Got out of the pool, showered, played mahjong, then decided that dinner shouldn't be pizza delivery, cos it would be expensive and not many people liked it.

Walked to e!hub yet again, had a Subway Meal, then walked back to the resort. Played mahjong with the 2I1 people (Joshua, Yau Xuan and Patrick) before finding out that everyone had their own things to do. Decided to scrap the second activity cos it was pretty pointless.

More and more and more mahjong filled the next few hours. Our class really loves mahjong.

Day 3 - 0030h
The others decided to go for a midnight walk, but Edmund and I went to 2I3 to watch Delta Farce, a bomb-astic comedy which didn't really fight away my sleeping bug. Felt really really tired, and went back to sleep.

Woke up, and found out that everyone else was in deep deep sleep. Spent the next two hours fiddling with my phone and the mahjong tiles as well as packing my bags.

Gradually people started to wake up, and I finally found three people to play mahjong with :D

Chun Shin wakes up and discovers his door locked and he can't come out. In desperation he climbs out of the window.

Everyone's awake, and the clean-up operation begins! Clearing rubbish on the floor, on the tables, near the BBQ pit, on the BBQ pit, in the rooms, outside the gates, blah blah - if we don't clear we can't check out.

Almost everything's cleared, and the guest officer comes in to inspect. Everything's like clockwork until he wants to check the rooms. He finds out that Room 2 had a door that can't be opened. Uh oh.

Yay - he manages to open the door from the inside. Everything's settled, and we check out! Yay!

OXY, Dian Yi, Wei Heng and I take my dad's car back to Hwa Chong. Sucked on a candy cane through the journey. Yum Yum.

Reach home, have lunch, doze off. ZZZ.

Post-chalet thoughts

All in all, it was the best chalet I ever had :D The barbecue was brilliant, midnight cycling was exhilerating (although exhausting) mahjong is always fun and enticing, while the rest of the 2I2 people just pretty much summed the whole thing up - a marvellous chalet which was the perfect thing to end two glorious years of school. But though it's the end, there will always be a new beginning.

I love 2I2. Forever and always.

class chalet - here we go again :D

I am definitely looking forward to spending three wonderful days... and with 2I2 you can be sure it's going to be a blast.

There is a big difference between organising and just merely participating. It's wonderful being able to organise and plan activities, and I got two activities planned so far :P

Mrs Wong, Mr Rong, Mr Chen, Mr Low, yin lao shi will join us on the first night, the barbeque - hope it's definitely not going to end up as an inedible mess like last year...

First activity I plan to organise will be a treasure hunt (at night) with a special twist, it's going to have a special theme (hint: I SHALL HAVE MY BOND!!!!) It's going to be very very very very fun, I promise :)

Second activity will be a more sentimental, thinking-based activity, which will enable us to reflect on ourselves and our classmates.

Perhaps more games will be planned over the weekend, depending on whether I have the time and mood to do such random things...

Ah, and there's still BSP scholarship interview...

Really, I never imagined 1M to be like that, but you guys blew my mind off with your jokes, your comments, your seriousness, your spirit, your brilliance, your excellence. After 2008, when I thought 2i2 couldn't be better, you guys amazed me again, with your resilience, your new gaming interests, your new subject of ridicule (R** Low)

It was wonderful being in 2I2, it's an honor, it's a blessing, and it's indeed an interesting class. Being the class chairman is a huge honor, despite my reluctance at the start, and when 30 October 2009 finally came I regretted my decision to be reluctant at the start.

my dedications and thank-yous have to be delayed, I am sorry, but I need some time to sort out my thoughts.

OBS's exciting, Ubin's been great, Nila Utama's a wonderful group, the experience was awesome. I must say that I was disappointed that this camp didn't group us according to our classes, because I wanted it to be part of the memoeries shared with 2I2, but in the end Nila Utama turned out great as well.

Rafting's been brilliant, pitching the tents was enriching, peeing behind bushes was ~~nonsensical~~ interesting, Jopescu's late-night random jokes were hilarious.

Initially I went there with a dampened spirit, a yearn to go home, and a little regret at my decision, but when I left my spirits were high, I wanted to go back, and I was proud I had made this decision.

In a nutshell, OBS is one-in-a-million. Don't miss it.

iSpark Nite 昨晚圆满落幕，同时中二的学习生涯也即将告个段落，在这一年里有过欢笑，有过泪水，有过难忘的回忆，有过痛苦的事件，有些恨不得抛在脑后的事，现在却有点依依不舍。。。

和 1M 和 2I2 的同学也相处了差不多两年的时间，也有过很多的回忆，也学了不少新本领，也掌握了新技能，更是体会了不屈不挠，自强不息的精神。非常向往和你们一起共度接下两年的时光，不过人各有志，毕竟有些人的志趣不相同，因此我看我们应该得在年底解散了。

所谓 “天无不散之宴席“，和你们在一起的时光非常珍贵，可是也过了很快，一眨眼两年也将过去了。可是，我想这段友谊必定能够长存，因为一日之友，终生知己，我们班级的精神绝对不会死去！我们班级精神永远存在!

希望能够和你们一起快乐地度过接下来几个星期的时间。

These few weeks have been very, very jam-packed. Not 2, not 4, not 6, but 9, yes NINE tests, poorly organized Pei Hwa gatherings, crap Billingual Speech Competition, suspected H1N1 case, Teacher's Day gifts, Physics Olympiad, Projects' Day Finals, IDS, moot parliament programme, Lit Seminar 2009 etc.

And yet at the end of all these, I feel so void of emotions. It's a kind of emptiness or hollowness that can't be explained. There seems to be no more goals in life, and I've lost all motivation. Perhaps the September holidays will give me a chance to rejuvenate.

Today was undeniably the day where the most shocking thing in my life happened.

For the first time this year, Benny was absent. Mrs. Wong came in and used up one whole period to talk about him and us. I felt that it was a complete waste of time. One period of 40 minutes could definitely be better utilized, be it going through MoV or even TKAM. At least it contributes to our end of year exams right? No one is exempted for Lit, so we could definitely do with an additional period of literary analysis. Instead, one whole period was used to talk about Benny, his ego, and how we should accept him for who he is.

Then the insults and complaints flooded in. Benny became the "perpetrator of all the turmoil", the "one who didn't know how to work with others", the one who "doesn't have the EQ thing in him", the one who "picks the best" and "refuses to work with the worst", "the one who always think he's right", blah blah. Benny wasn't here - what we wanted to say about him, fictitious or real, was up to us.

Despite us being the majority, it was clear that Benny had the upper hand (even if he was absent) as whatever we said about him was refuted on the imaginary grounds that "we should all start on a brand new slate" and that we should "stop this vicious cycle".

The "perfect reasoning"? If we stop, Benny would realize that we are not hating him anymore, and he will turn for the better.

It then struck me that this one-sided argument is useless. No matter what we say, or complain or scowl or argue, we weren't right. We should have stopped all our lousy insults long time ago, since Benny is the angel of righteousness! It's a kind of slap-in-your-face thing. We think he was wrong, hence we insult, retort, or argue with him, but in the end, it turns out that HE'S THE ONE THAT IS RIGHT!

We are sorry, Benny, for disgracing you in public. We are sorry, Benny, for being annoyed with your behaviour that we stupidly think is wrong, but actually, in the eyes of everyone else, is completely right!

Hey, get your facts right. Benny, with his excellent results and character, couldn't be wrong. Who are we? We are only normal people. Hence it's always our fault.

Weekly Recap

IDS was great
It was wonderful churning out newsletters with fictitious information, fictitious comments, and fictitious names, and still getting a commendation from Mr Rong, or how Mrs. Jenny Wong says it as Mr. Yifei. Wadeva.
It was wonderful seeing the squibbles and squabbles between Benny and his team a.k.a. Wei Heng and Dian Yi and rejoicing over the fact that we, the Money-Minders, are free from such arguments. :D

Fantastic Pronunciation
This is classified under two segments - under Mrs. ___________ and Mr. __________ (no disclosing of identities). We accidentally found out that Mrs. ___________ extremely British-like pronunciation sounded a little weird, like how she pronounced the word "hour" as "AARH" instead of the typical "OW-ER". Then her logic was a little weird too. "I don't know where the open air carpark is, but you guys know it, so I'll meet you there." HUH? What did that mean? Okay, down to the next part. Mr. ________ (now this was discovered by Xun Yuan) likes to forgo the "g" behind each word. Note that it is only the last "g" of the word, so he won't pronounce "Good" as "ood". Examples include Colin On, Mrs. Won etc.

MPP (Moot Parliament Paiseh)
Why "paiseh"? This is because we lost. A huge group of 19 people, mind you, NINETEEN people went there to be shamed. Not that we could do better, but our debators were so puny as compared to RI and ACS giants. Even our teacher labelled it as an "embarrassment". We didn't even stay for the tea reception. How disappointing.

how well i love this week :D

It's absolutely brilliant week of crazy IDS, which incidentally stands for Idiotic Disgusting Studies, and the teachers don't care. You've done your work, you've nothing else to do, so you play. Wide array of choices available - PvZ, MouseHunt, MythMongers, WarCraft, StarCraft... the list goes on.

And I'm satisfied with all my results, except that idiotic math that should just knock itself against the wall.

(70 + 78)/2 = 74% = sadded incident, and I don't want 74 to appear on my report again

I'm lucky again in the sense that there is no exemption for lang and lit this year. WHOOPEE! It's cool in the sense that I couldn't get exempted in the first place, so if no one gets exempted, I'm not on the losing side. Too bad for science though, I was the one who pressed for NO EXEMPTION (because of my horrendous physics) but then after that 90% from chemistry I found out exemption was possible, but with Mr. Low's strong determination it was now impossible :(

And did I mention we finished our IDS already? This means the next two days are practically slacking, but we still have to act that we haven't done our IDS. This way the teachers won't notice that we're slacking :D

A* for projects!!! I am so overwhelmed by happiness.
It's a nice coincidence that I've just hit 200 posts, and hence this post is dedicated to a particular group of people.

To our mentor
Mentoring us is no mean feat, as you can see that WE SLACK. We never really put in a lot of effort (not like the carbon trading group) and I think you do know that. Your frequent niao-ing has worked wonders. Your sweeping statement that you thought the best we could muster was an A forced us to work hard for that A, and somehow it became an A*. Your ~~biasedness~~ erm, I mean inclination to side with and agree with the carbon trading group made us feel that we should impress you even more. Your pompous (albeit a little faked) "jiayou"s to us made us really chiong on the last day and that really contributed to our tremendous results. You rock, and now we are ON PAR with the carbon trading group liao. No favouritism anymore alright?

To my group
YEAH CHEER ALL THE WAY!!! I really like this group because we really work well together. We share the same interests (PvZ, MouseHunt, MythMongers etc.) we have different fortes (presenting, IT, flash, interviewing) and we know when to do what (only exception is during our group meetings lah) Bo Geng, the self-proclaimed "guy in a little affection" with the lovely badminton romance, Keefe, the cool guy who only does what he is told to (no initiative :D) and doesn't participate much in crapping sessions, Edmund, the "balding" and "double-heartbeat" guy, who craps out a website that is mocked as "not cheerful" and "distressing" - so much for his IT talent, and last but not least the always flirtatious Gary :D:D who reuses his five-time-used-already game for our flash game (just changed the title from "Shark Attack" to "Balloon Attack") and secretly fantasizing about a special somebody when we are rushing our project. And of course with me, the most eloquent, cheerful, bubbly, efficient and intelligent guy, this group is made perfect.

To the judges
Thank you Mr Chen for LOLing at our project. I agree that our project is a little not up to the carbon trading's standards, but looking on the contrary we actually cheer the judges up with our presentation, right? That fits perfectly with our title C.H.E.E.R, and I think the judges didn't notice all our work was practically last-minute. Nevertheless, the judges had quite a strong impression of our group and they loved every single minute of the presentation (except the little shock they received when they saw the almost-similar flash game). Thank You for condoning all our mistakes and noticing our real potential. The A* is impossible without you brilliant judges, and if I had to choose my judges for next year's competition it will be you four. I promise.

Close Shave with H1N1
Well, last week I was practically hibernating, although there was project finals + five tests. I'm not implying that I scored well despite my flu (which I did, but is not the issue here) but rather I thank God that I wasn't down with the real stuff. I did go to school for the whole week despite my flu (no fever here, so not being irresponsible, not like what Hon says) and if it was H1N1 I must have been real lucky to survive it without Tamiflu doses at all.

Speech Competition
Well it is heartening to know that only one representative is chosen from each school, which means that me being chosen is already a great thing (1 out of 450 people = 0.23%) plus I am the eighth among all 50 such representatives. Getting into finals means nothing for me - real useless prize anyway, but really heartened at the fact that I won people from RI, NYGH, RGS etc. I PWNED, AND I LIKED IT.

Music Charts Are Up
Last time it used to be called "Current Craze" detailing all the TV shows and songs I am fanatical about, but now it's a compilation of my FAVOURITE SONGS this week. It'll be updated weekly, with loads of new songs, I promise, with no delay. Hope you guys like it!

General Recap for this week:

Blogger hasn't been exactly cooperative.
Well, it turns out that posting new posts are kind of disabled now because the options don't appear when you are typing a new post. Practically everything I am typing now is in HTML code, which sort of reminds me of my sucky HTML skills. But everything's still fine I guess. I can bold itallicize and underline. Not that bad for a Sec Two who got a C5 for HTML last year.

Perhaps my memory is failing me or something. Just three days ago I left my earpiece in school, before leaving my swimming stuff in school on Thursday. To make matters worse, I forgot to hand in that piece of composition to the Chinese teacher. Anyway, back to the topic.

Charity Six 07 is a dying nation.
It's not that serious till I become a total stranger to the class, it's just that the enthusiasm has reached rock-bottom. Now all this failing nation has is just a bunch of stoners (who practically do nothing except stoning) and a little enthu-but-lacking-fun-ideas people. I am fortunate to belong to the second group, and although Friday was a "sien party" it still remains as part of my fond memories with CH6'07.
Just one thing to note: Please don't let it happen next gathering.

My English improved.
I guess it's not something to be arrogant about, but today has to be the pinnacle of success for English. A1 for comprehension + composition is no mean feat, and it deserves to be featured in this post.

Sometimes, we may think that we could have a chance of being POSSESSED by another UNEXPLAINED OBJECT.
In this case, you may have already fallen prey to the SOFT TOY (OR BLACK HOLE) CONSPIRACY! (shock!!! horror!!! revulsion!!!)

Brave and intrepid reporters MIng Kit and Chun Shin risk their lives to dabble in the deep black side of the soft toy (or black hole) conspiracy.

RESULTS OF OUR EXPEDITION

It turns out that EVERY SINGLE PERSON (well the vast majority if you are BENNY) is being possessed by a soft toy.
They come in different shapes, sizes and identities, but THEY HAVE THE SAME MOTIVE - to TAKE OVER EVERY HUMAN ON EARTH AND DOMINATE THE WORLD!!!

If you are timid and you don't dare to do anything, you may well be possessed by a MOUSE SOFT TOY!!!
You are petrified at almost everything, you are scared of anything, but sometimes have an urge to keep gnawing at something. May it be your curtains, your carpet or fingernails, your gnawing will never stop until you encounter the ACRONYM!!!

Perfect example: COLIN ONG (as quiet as a MOUSE, doesn't dare to speak up in class)

If you are foolhardy and violent, you may well be possessed by a TIGER SOFT TOY!!!
You aren't really smart, but you compensate with your brute force and 100% stinky breath. You fight, you bite, you resort to violence if you can't solve problems, and you purely win through ferociousness.

Perfect example: LEE XIN DE (violent, vulgar, stinky breath)

If you are weird and random, you may well be possessed by a PANDA SOFT TOY!!!
You turn weird, you talk weird, you do weird stuff, and you become WANDOM!!! You may be afflicted with the most foul and evil and terrible disease of mankind - the PAIDS (panda acquired immuno-defiency syndrome). You love pandas so much, you may even hold birthday parties for your own panda soft toys!!!

Perfect example: GAN WEI LIANG (he does become random over the years, and he does really hold b'dae parties for his soft toy panda)

If you hate wearing shoes, buying shoes. wearing socks, buying socks, or all four, you may well be possessed by a DOG SOFT TOY!!!
You detest shoes so much you don't wear them at all!!! You hate shoes, and the people who are stupid enough to wear them. That's why you like chewing your master's shoes so much - because you want to make sure no shoes exist on this world!!!

Perfect example: CHOW DIAN YI (no shoes during many lesson periods, shoes gotten stolen for umpteen times)

If you resist your impulses to chase beautiful women, woo pretty girls, flirt with cute females, or chat with Sonia all night, you may well be possessed by a RHINOCEROS SOFT TOY!!!

You cannot resist the temptation to grab people like Sonia and kiss them or the like. Likewise, you find it impossible to stop yourself from hugging Sonia. You spend most of the night at your laptop, chatting with Sonia and drooling all over the keyboard with your sick fantasies.

Perfect example: GARY TAN (duh. how much more obvious do you want it to be? he always goes SONIASONIASONIASONIA during class time, and always sleeps in class to dream and fantasise about Sonia)

If it is your job to suck, if you cannot stop sucking, if you have to suck, if you will die without sucking, you may well be possessed by a BLACK HOLE!!!

You find it impossible to stop yourself from sucking all you can. You know that you suck, yet you cannot stop sucking. People think that you suck, and deep down in your heart, you wholeheartedly agree.

Perfect example: WE ALL KNOW WHO WE'RE TALKING ABOUT (sucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksucksuck. who else can it be?)

Our brilliant reasoning:

First, we found a PANDA PICTURE on Wei Liang's handphone. The picture was of a panda hugging a can of green tea. Upon brutal and direct questioning (sample: what's this?) we found that Wei Liang had celebrated his panda's birthday. Naturally, this was very suspicious. We could of course instantly assume without further thought that Wei Liang had been possessed by his panda. Their souls had swapped places, and the panda's spirit was in Wei Liang's body!!! (on a side note, Wei Liang's soul was encased for all eternity in the soft toy's body, but who cares?) Up till now, he-IT had avoided detection by absorbing Wei Liang's memories. That's why IT remained as smart as Wei Liang in math and IS.

From there on, the conspiracy made sense. We had a reason for everything. Why everyonehad suddenly changed. We realised, of course, that everyone had been possessed by their soft toy. The only exception was "WE ALL KNOW WHO WE'RE TALKING ABOUT", because he sucked so much that everyone but the BLACK HOLE shunned him.

Beware, everyone, be on your guard. For the panda-Wei Liang is plotting at this moment to overthrow human dominion. If we do not stop him, we shall all perish!!! Beware...

ok. today's simple wrap-up:

NEW CLASS RULE

There is supposed to be ZERO facebook nowadays on the school computer, and I guess that wraps up and settles all the hullabaloo about sounding the Hunter's Horn, clicking the play button etc. And yes, I'll be there to enforce the rule.

Recess and After School Time was spent on "Hoedown Throwdown".
Response wasn't THAT enthusiastic, but I guess we'll have to make do with it since the audition's not that near anyway...

Trig is much better understood (as of now) but then we sort of embarrassed ourselves in front of Mr. Rong when we were presenting on a graph which Dian Yi got from some random source. Mr Rong was like asking ME what was x and f(x) on the graph and why it did not come along with a degree sign and I just stared and gave crap because I WAS NOT THE ONE WHO FOUND THE GRAPH??!!

Jordin Sparks' Battlefield and Benny Lava is so addictive.
Wei Liang it's all your fault I got addicted. Blasting it on the class computer after school drilled the melody and lyrics into my mind liao.

Project's Day
I don't exactly know how it became such a screwed project. It could be MythMongers (the newest online craze), it could be the sucky time management, it could be the noisy audience, I don't really know. Perhaps every part contributed. To think about it, the person most affected would be Keefe, Bo Geng and I, since Edmund and Gary's other projects went really good.

Perhaps it was wrong for me to introduce this game to Gary, Edmund and Bo Geng which eventually spread throughout the whole class.

Senility

I think that I'm already old. White hair - loads of them, and now my memory's failing me almost everyday. I can't really remember stuff that I'm supposed to remember. I left my thumbdrive in class - which I took a bus all the way back to retrieve - and my mouse plugged on to WeiLiang's computer, which I'll get when I go back to school on Monday.

H1N1

Updates on the flu pandemic - well everything's the same except that Jeremy's off for 7 days due to his ILI symptoms. No flag raising, assembly and CCA yet, and we MUST all fight against the flu by not stepping into JC side to contain the spread, but 60+ people can get crammed into a small classroom with no ventilation during Project's Day. IRONIC.

Pissing Benny

Well, we've always been pissing Benny off, so this doesn't really seem like a major news, but I'm going to say it anyways, because during Current Affairs he started a "frenzy" over imitating his over exaggerated hand gestures. Perhaps after all these three gruelling days I am finally fit to talk about the so-called "new" initiative - the e-learning project.

It's not that good, honestly, I can tell you I hated almost every minute of it.

Well, what are the advantages of this? Not much, really.

Freedom factor?

Well, it's great, you work at your own pace, as long as you finish every bit of homework given, you're free - you're dismissed for the day.

Comfort factor?
Ok, it's not everyday that you get to work in casual wear, T-shirt and shorts, instead of that stuffy uniform, and you can play music, make yourself a cup of hot chocolate or cold lemonade. What they call a learning haven.

Convenience factor?

Definitely homelearning saves you the trouble, time and money of transport. No need to wait for a bus, train or taxi during the peak hour of 7 a.m, instead you only take a few steps to your computer, sit down, and start work. No hassle at all.

Fun factor?
Homelearning means NO TEACHERS. There's no CCTV surveillance, and so you're open to a variety of choices when you're tired of homework. Runescape, Audition, Warcraft, Facebook, MouseHunt, Mafia Wars, Viwawa, MapleStory... they're endless. Not to mention MSN, with those cute emoticons and annoying nudges (OMG, the horrors of a nudge war!)

Other than these? Anything else? I don't think there's anything else that's good with home-learning.

Well down to the disadvantages.

Freedom acts against you.

It's not quite free in home-learning. It isn't exactly free for you. You got trapped with tons and tons of homework, so much that even those "breaks" are meant for homework. And what's worse, you're trapped in your own house, a place so familiar to you, yet you are quarantined from the outside world. Sometimes I really think that home learning is another mode of self-quarantine. There's just another thing to keep you occupied with - homework.

No teachers.
Yep, no teachers means you're free to do anything you want - go chat, play games, slack, wadeva. Just one simple rule - complete your homework by 1.30 p.m. While that may seem 'shiok', there's a downside-whatever you don't know, you don't. And there's no way to rescue you from your burning trouble except seek for help on MSN. Oh yah, and then the hullabaloo starts. Welcome to the 2I2 Chatterbox. You're cornered up, down, left, and right by questions, WHEN YOU HAVE LOTS OF QUESTIONS TO ASK AS WELL! Oh well, end result = epic fail.

Health Problems.
You'd probably know that LONG-TERM-COMPUTER-FACING leads to myopia, which is bad bad bad. About 80% of my class wears specs, and that is DOUBLE BADNESS for them. The breaks don't suffice, honestly. Ask any optician about this, and what you'll get as an answer is "NO". Simple as that.

Boredom.

Yeah, you'd die of boredom. School is so much interesting compared to this initiative, which is a bad idea in my opinion. There's essentially nothing else to do other than face your laptop/desktop screen viewing wikispaces, SMB, email, facebook, blogger (OMG what I am doing now) etc. So what's the interest factor? Oh, and speaking to your friends on MSN is really boring. Not interactive at all. ZZZ.

But it's all alright. It's gonna pass in just 48 more hours. Buh-bye dumb home learning!

iLeaders' camp's over. :D

I wouldn't call it a smashing success, but I do admit that it was fun. (note: that DOESN'T change my negative perspectives towards iCouncil). Yep, despite the mosquito bites, and not-that-good venue (curses to swine flu), it was at least satisfactory.

THE GREAT:

Well, what would I classify as great in the camp?

- The Amazing Race. A big portion of my likeness towards this race was because WE WON. iKr1xon all the way yeahhhh!!! Other than that the games were okay and although we sorta MANIPULATED quite a lot of the rules so that WE could do it fast and easy, it was a nice experience.

- Performance Nite. Title was iLeaders Got Talent (cough...cough...ORIGINALITY??) and theme was MUSIC.Our buddy actually wanted us to do hsm, but in the end it got scrapped because Hou Zheng didn't want to cross dress and become Gabriella. Oh, did I mention the script was entirely rhythmatic (with inspiration from our OM group :D)

- Prize Presentation. Proudly presenting the OVERALL WINNER of iLeaders June Training Camp... iKr1Xon!!! Muahahahahaha! ~~HONESTLY I think it was a fluke~~ Practically we pwned every other group with our wonderful teamwork, sense of humour, entertaining skills and excellent organising.

- Benny. First it was the irritating calling of his name, like...."BEhhhh-nnnnnyyy!" Then it was the utter laugh-laugh performance where Darren finally got the chance to push him around and SHOUT/RANT at him with broken English (with a smattering of Hokkien). EPIC.

THE SO-SO:

- Fine dining.The briefing made me feel that SIM cafe should serve some posh nosh and I WAS WRONG D: Food was ok, but the waitresses were laughing at our ties and "over-formal" wear.

- Our event planning. I nearly wanted to put it under BAD, but it's hard to deny the fact that we were hindered by weather. A shift of location - and we're back on track. OT joined in, and even our iCouncil chairman.

BAD:

- Our meals. It's hard to deny the fact that canteen food is always not that spectacular, and camps in school ALWAYS get lunch and dinner from mixed rice stall. But still, not good. BLEH.

- Food cheer. I swear I'd never ever do the food cheer in my life. It's stupid, it's not catchy, and although it's a tradition, WE HAVE TO SCRAP THE CHEER. WE MUST.

- Time Schedule. Rushed, rushed = bushed, bushed. Well 2 hours of prep for our performance wasn't enough, and if we could extend it to three days it'll be optimum. :D

But after all, this camp shows that iCouncil and iCMG needs to work together, and we belong together. That's all, and wait for my "food for thought" coming up later.

moi & moosic (1) 同歌不同人

Well today's MOI&MOOSIC will focus on 同歌不同人, or directly translated as "same-song-but-different-singers".

In the past there have been many many instances, but in the latest music charts, there have been repeats of 同歌不同人 again.

For English, we of course have the song "No Boundaries" which have been sung by BOTH Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. We all know Kris won. But which

version of "No Boundaries" do you prefer?

Kris Allen just sings it the "normal American Idol" way, and just the CLASSIC style. No surprises, but Kris' vocals are wonderful, and that ups the song

quite a lot.

Adam Lambert is the other extreme. Rock-and-roll is his way to sing, and his ONLY way. "No Boundaries" is not suited for that style IMO, and thus I

prefer Kris' version.

For Mandarin pop, although not very well-known, is the battle between 方大同's 三人游 and 一人留 by 石欣卉. The song was FIRST sung by 方大同, then

石欣卉 went to change the lyrics. Perhaps not a lot of people know about this, so I might as well post the chorus here.

Hit the cinemas again today... this time it was monsters v.s. aliens. :D

Really thought that it would be better if in 3D, because it was tailored to be. But the 2D version was good too. 7/10 is my rating.

B.O.B. lights up the whole scene. He is funny, has crazy abilities and his lines are HILARIOUS!

The Missing Link is just pure Moto-Moto, if you saw Madagascar 2.

Dr. Cockroach is frazzy, crazy, and has lots of insight. Pity that he's only a cockroach.

Favourite Character? 100% Insectosaurus. A wonderfully crafted character, I must say. Cute, strong, and yet pitiful at times. It was really painful seeing him nearly "die" after he got hit by the missile. Thankfully he only went into metamorphosis.

If I were to describe these few weeks with one word it will be "rollercoaster", and if I had to describe yesterday with one word it would be "sentimental".

yesterday was a class party or a farewell party whatever you call it, but yet it was the best and meaningful thing ever.

the b'dae cake was nice :D with the blueberries in the middle :D and the nice "we'll miss you teachers" on top.

the atmosphere was great :D although XinDe's songs are a little on the hip hop or party side, so it did not seem like it was something sad, but perhaps it was meant to be like that, so we won't feel sad.

perhaps it's the most tiniest details that stay in your mind, and perhaps it's those little details that mean the most to you.

perhaps it's the shortest sentences that leave the most impact. my last sentence to mrs siah was '永别了', and to miss chua, 'good luck, bye bye'. I know if I go on I would choke and not be able to continue.

sucky. fun. ridiculous.

sucky... because I had to climb up three flights of stairs more than fifteen times and I had to explain the different locations like siao.

fun... because the overall atmosphere was really great. The drums, the band, the NCC and NPCC, not to forget cute Art Club :D.

A Letter To Whoever Is In Charge Of "Humanities In Focus 2009"

Dear sir/madam,

Re: The failures of HiF 2009

The Humanities in Focus was held today at 3 p.m. It wasn't an epic failure, but many minor failures here and there in the competition caused ~~great moderate~~ a little irritance to the contestants, me included.

I am writing to point out the different mistakes committed by the Organising Team and what could be done to improve the situation next year.

Firstly, I seriously don't understand the problem of seating. Let me point out something before I continue. LT4 is a really bad venue, cos it disadvantages left-handers (like me) with its tables that are weirdly inclined to the right.

Okay, most people may be fine with it, but there is still another drawback. Oddly enough, most teachers seem to forget the absence of tables at the seats at the back of the LT. Hence, the seating arrangment becomes screwed and our class has no table to fill in the question paper. Now now, what did the organising team do?

They just took the easy way out and ordered us to go back to our classes to complete the paper!

Now, I would like to point out one advantage of the LT. There is air-con, and our class doesn't. I'm not implying that the OT is being unfair (although most people do think so) but I do feel that we would not really do as well in our class as compared to the LT. And true enough, the questions miraculously became very tough and we can't do anything but to tikam and fill in random answers.

Next, I would like to comment on how the student helpers behaved. Some were okay, they abided by the rules, they did what they were supposed to do, but some were ~~terrible disgusting annoying evil~~ a little disobedient.

They brought food into our class!!!!

It was some noodle soup or something. Eeewwww..... Yes, I know, they are probably famished after so much planning for the competition, but they should bring their food outside if they want to eat. You see, our class has a reputation of being clean and tidy. If any food drops on the floor, then cockroaches and ants will be attracted. Then, what will happen to our class cleanliness?

Is he supposed to come and clean our class everyday until we win back the "Cleanest Class Award"?

Lastly, I would like to comment on the questions set in the paper.

How are we supposed to know the 44 presidents of USA if we are not Americans?
How are we supposed to know Scottish rulings for alcohol if we don't live there?
How are we supposed to know Royston Tan produced 881 when we are loaded with so much homework until we are left with no time for movies?

If such questions are set in next year's paper, then the other students (who may not be as courageous as us) may experience an emotional breakdown and get depression.

Therefore, may I suggest the questions next year be of much easier standard and all the questions should be given hints e.g.
Who is the current president of USA? (P.S. "O" is the letter of the year!!!)

I hope this letter is regarded seriously and not just thrown away into the rubbish bin labelled "Unnecessary Complaints".

I expected today to be a flop.

Honestly.

What greeted me this morning was the greatest shock of my life.

Dance moves not choreographed.
Props thrown away.
Pathetic number of colour pencils.

Anyway, faithful followers of the blog and all 2I2-ers should know that we are best at compromising and solving problems with a simple solution.

Dance moves not choreographed? Use the last 20 minutes to come up with some rough steps.
Props thrown away? 无形道具 lor!
Pathetic number of colour pencils? Collect more from everybody!

So we DO get a rough idea of what we did before setting off for CIP at Toa Payoh CareLink - last-minute worrying and preparing.

But anyway, we had to face the music...we got on the bus and reached at about 9.10.

TALK ABOUT CROWDS. 18 OF US HAD TO TAKE CARE OF 50 OF THEM.

Performances! First up we presented the skit. We actually planned an English "subbing" - because our skit was in Chinese.

Result? Everybody was rushing their lines so nobody had the chance to give English translations.

I was glad to hear the elderly people say "这个演得不错" when it was my turn to act. And the applause at the end really made my day. It assuaged all my fears - that they would be hostile and start shaking their heads when we perform.

Next was morning exercise. Xin De was hilarious when he had to demonstrate, but nonetheless, the elderly people loved it. We were laughing along, they were clapping, and it all pieced together to form a homely and warm environment.

When will we really blend in with them? The true part was the 洗刷刷 dance. Everyone was dancing together - including them - they really seemed to enjoy it. "Chori Chori" was of course, another bid to let them indulge in the pleasure of singing and dancing - and it was successful, of course.

Colouring Competition was great - they really took it very seriously. One was almost on the verge of tears because she didn't know what to colour...luckily the helpers were there to help. Colin Ong and Zhi Ming became "student-colourers".

There was a woman who suffers from kleptomania, I guess. She stuffed all the pencils into her bag and intended to keep them for good.

Prize Ceremony was quite a disgrace. We only had 6 pathetic prizes, so Gary had to run to town central to buy some pens back. Another flurry over removing price tags. Oh yah and I am so sorry to one uncle because I read his name as "李女士".

It was quite sad to see them almost tearing when they got their prizes, big or small. They must really have not had received prizes for very long.

Then, we parted ways. It was indeed 依依不舍 for them, because - how long do they have to wait for another meeting with people that are not as old as them?

After we returned to school it was a flurry over UNO. Then we played Truth or Dare (which has such secret content that nothing should leak out of the classroom) then went home.

I want to go back to Toa Payoh some time.

The holidays again do not seem like holidays.

It seems so 理所当然 that I have to make a trip to Hwa Chong to collect the 成语/俗语 booklets because of the competition and that I thought Zhi Ming was already in Malaysia enjoying his favourite Malay food. AND FREAK ZHI MING DECIDED TO STAY IN SINGAPORE FOR GOOD.

It seems so 理所当然 that I have to be the leader of the project group because I am, for once, the best in class when it comes to slacking.

It again seems so 理所当然 when asked to go for the CIP event, which was practically summarised in three words, TIRING, BORING, and STINKING (because of the detergent and the permanent marker smells). Oh well, at least we get to do our part for the society (although it is the very disgusting part)

And of course definitely 理所当然 to laugh with Chun Shin when we saw a Hwa Chong JC student (my cute Art Club senior) walking to his home with a somewhat weird thingy wrapped around his head. And also 理所当然 to shout "DISGRACE!!!" at him.

It is also 理所当然 as well for the whole holiday to be stuffed with projects, plus bloody Statistics. Honestly, the notes don't help. :(

FREAK WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAND IN THE POETRY ANTHOLOGY NEXT WEEK? I THOUGHT IT WAS NEXT TERM!
